This Pedro Almodovar film follows a woman, Julieta (Emma Suarez in present day and Adriana Ugarte in flashback), as she reflects on her broken relationship with her daughter. Suarez is quite commanding and the tale is engrossing but the motivation is weak. The mother and daughter were torn apart by guilt, but that is never really shown, it is only told.
