Broker tells the story of a prostitute giving her baby up at a “baby box” in Busan, South Korea and the men who take that baby to sell. All three of them end up on an impromptu road trip together with the baby and a boy from the orphanage. The characters appear to be scummy at first but over time hidden depths that help redeem them emerge.
This is by Hirokazu Koreeda the same director as Shoplifters. Like that movie the theme of how strong the ties of an improvised family can or could be is strong. Shoplifters was a tighter story, but I think Broker is also a movie that will stick with you.
