Wildlife examines how a couple’s (Jake Gyllenhall and Carey Mulligan) deteriorating relationship affects their son (Ed Oxenbould). It takes place in Colorado in the early 70s, but that’s just the setting, it doesn’t add much to the movie. The performances by Gyllenhall and Mulligan are very good, but we don’t need another movie that examines why a wife is justified in cheating on her husband. And why has Carey Mulligan become typecast as this very specific trope? She’s better than that.
