Nouvelle Vague is Richard Linklater’s love-letter to the French New-Wave. It follows Jean-Luc Godard (played by Guillaume Marbeck) as he makes his debut film Breathless, in his own idiosyncratic way. It seems that Linklater tried to include pretty much every icon of the French New Wave in some way. It’s fun and is in French. It follows a pretty simple narrative though and is shot pretty simply. There’s not much stylistic references to Breathless other than it being in Black and White, Academy Format, and in French. If you’re a fan of the French New Wave, this is a bouncy tribute.
