The Killer is David Fincher’s new movie about an assassin. The never-named Killer (played by Michael Fassbender) messes up his most recent hit. Because of this other hits are put out on him and his girlfriend. So, despite insisting that he doesn’t care who he kills, that emotion should never come into a hit, and that everything should go according to plan he decides to get revenge on everyone involved.
There is a lot of narration in this movie and the film is structured in chapters like a book. It feels a little lazy and also had me always wondering if the book was better (actually based on a comic series). I think this movie may be trying to say something about the 1 percent, violence in America, or how we no longer have black-and-white morals in modern media but I honestly can’t say what.
I may be missing something, but this seemed more like an exercise in style than an actual important work of Fincher’s.
