the Smash Bros Diaries – Week 30 – Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Switch)

World of Light is completed!

Night One

Night One I went into World of Light, back to the Final Battle. I defeated Dharkon. I defeated Galeem. Then I went to the actual last battle. I eventually defeated that as well, but it took over an hour.

I played mainly as Dark Samus. Dharkon and Galeem were similar battles with some mix-ups. The very last level had like three phases – a platforming portion where you avoid bosses, a Final Destination Phase where you fight the mini-bosses again, and then the final phase where you fight both Dharkon and Galeem at the same time. For this stage, you choose three fighters. At first, I tried Dark Samus, Joker, and Kirby but I wasn’t able to keep up with the platforming. So I Switched to DS, Palutena, and Pikachu. Which gave me enough air movement to beat the platforming portion (in which you always scroll up). I was also able to beat all the mini-bosses again, mainly relying on Pikachu. What’s nice about the three different phases is you only go back to the beginning of that phase, not all the way to the start. And there are heart container drops throughout the first two phases. I didn’t die against the mini-bosses so I’m not sure if you’d have to fight each mini-boss again if you lost.

The final fight took a number of tries. I had to switch out of Palutena because she wasn’t getting the job done. Basically both Dharkon and Galeem attack you at the same time. You have to damage both of them. Once you do enough damage to one, their eye will fall out and their counterpart will deliver a devasting blow. But even doing that for each Boss once isn’t enough, more damage is needed. Sometimes Light and Dark Fighters will appear out of a portal. I found the best thing to do for that part was just avoid them and they will KO each other. Eventually, I settled on a Dark Samus, Pikachu, and Samus trio and was able to finally defeat both bosses and complete the game. And I’m proud to say, I never switched off Normal difficulty.

After clearing World of Light I played some Cruel Smash, All-Star Smash, and Home Run Contest. I’ve now played every Mode in Ultimate, so I’m confident I can rate it.

I only have a few Milestones left in Adventure Mode to clear that page. Clear the first part of the Final Battle with Ganondorf, Win the Final Battle without taking a KO. Win in all battles, Remove all obstacles in the World of Light, Unlock all facilities, and start New Game+. I may return to World of Light and try to finish this. Just going back and clearing the remaining spaces will get most of them. Setting it to Very Easy, I’d probably be able to get the Ganondorf one. The one that would be hard is winning the Final Battle without taking a KO. Even setting it to Very Easy and being able to do that, it would take around an hour of time. Not sure if want to do that or not.

Nights Two – Seven

So, no full update for the rest of the week because of the holidays. I played some days, I didn’t play other days.

I practiced my BnB combos, kill confirms and edge-guarding with Joker against a low-level CPU again. I continued to work on watching my opponent instead of my character. We played a few matches on Christmas Day.

Now that I’m done World of Light, I don’t know what’s I’m planning next. I might go to a local during my break if I’m able. I’ll likely have a marathon session with a friend or two coming up. I’ll continue working on learning the combos, kill confirms, and ins-and-outs of Joker, Young Link, and Ness. When I have no tournaments in the immediate future I’m going to work on trying out a few more mains.

Here’s to the New Year!
