In this film two ladies-in -waiting vie for Queen Anne’s (Olivia Colman) favor and affection. Though based on the real conflicts between Sarah Churchill (Rachel Weisz) and Abigail Masham (Emma Stone), the filmmakers seem to have taken vast liberties with the story. That is one its charms as it isn’t a stuffy costume drama. It almost comes across more of a Mean Girls in court. But it’s not as funny as classic high school comedies. It has good dramatic arc, but is marred by a truly bizarre ending.
