The Other Side of Hope follows Khaled (Sherwan Haji) a Syrian refugee who seeks asylum in Finland, is denied, and then tries to live their under the radar. He also never gives up on searching for his lost sister Miriam (Niroz Haji). There is a separate subplot about Wikstrom (Sakari Kuosmanen) a tailor who sells away all of his shirts so he can buy a restaurant.
While Khaled is a interesting character, there’s not much else to this movie. The Wikstrom plot is boring and not interesting. And it feels kind of icky to say, but better and more engrossing movies have been made about refugees and immigrants.
