WiiU had one of the strongest launch lineups in recent memory. There were a lot of ports and some obvious clunkers, but there were also a few original games that showed off the system’s capabilities.
In coming up with the criteria of this lists I decided to remove all ports, only original WiiU games would be eligible. I will say that Scribblenauts Unlimited is a great game and the WiiU version is one of the best versions of it.
There were three runner-ups to best game of the year. Little Inferno, New Super Mario Bros. U, and ZombiU. These were not only addictive games, but they were games that couldn’t have been made on another system.
There was one game however, that stood above the rest, and that was Nintendo Land.
This game is like a mash-up of Wii Sports and Mario Party. One player uses the GamePad and the other players use Wii Remotes to compete in mini-games. Between turns the GamePad is passed to another player and they get to choose the next mini-game. If a player isn’t included in a game they can bet on the winner. There is an overall total being kept for all mini-games. It combines what’s fun playing board games with what’s fun playing videogames. It’s a completely new experience and it wouldn’t be possible on any other system.
