July was quite a month for WiiWare. The US store saw games from such notable franchises as Final Fantasy, Monkey Island, Bust-A-Move, and critic’s darling Bit.Trip. There was however, only one game of the month.
Game of Month
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord
Publisher: Square Enix
Genre: Strategy
Cost: 1000 Wii Points
Rating: Everyone 10+ for Mild Fantasy, Mild Suggestive Themes
Square Enix’s latest Final Fantasy downloadable title is a deft mix of the strategy, RPG, and Tower-Defense genres. Unlike other Tower Defense games, My Life as a Darklord requires more stragetic planning than quick reflexes. There are plenty of levels to keep you busy and the game does a nice job of introducing new enemies, tower upgrades, and support units slowly. You never feel overloaded with new things to learn. This is a fine addition to any Final Fantasy fan’s library and a must-play for Tower-Defense Addicts.
