5. Rock Band 2
Rock Band stormed the world. A natural extension of the Guitar Hero franchise, Rock Band put together fake guitar, drums, vocals, and bass all in one package. Gamers and non-gamers alike formed virtual bands and rocked the virtual world. A relatively simple concept proved to be one of biggest social phenomena in years.
What makes Rock Band 2 worthy of a place on the list? There are a few reasons. The sequel refined a lot of the minor issues that held back the original from perfection. The Online modes were extended. World Tour is more open-ended, allowing drop-in and drop-out game play. No longer is it necessary to make a different band for each instrument. Full albums were made available for download for both Rock Band 1 and 2. The song list is still seeing weekly updates. Rock Band was almost a whole new way to experience a videogame; Rock Band 2 makes that experience even better.
