4. Wario Land: Shake It!

Wario Land: Shake It! takes the traditional platformer and tweaks it for the Wii. With the Wii-Remote on its side Shake It! controls like a traditional NES game with motion added. It feels like a natural extension of the way we have been controlling 2-D platformers for ages.

The controls are not the only tweaks to the genre. The graphics are a lush, hand-drawn anime. The level design is a different take as well. After you reach the end of the level you have to backtrack to the beginning before time runs out.

While it not quite my dream of modernized 2-D platformer, the moments when it hits, it can be even more fun than those Mario games we grew up with.
