I'd rather crap out my 15 dollars.

Despite Penny Arcade’s thoughts to the otherwise I’m not willing to pay 15 dollars for Braid, or Castle Crashers. I downloaded Braid and thought it was a. boring. b. not an actual platformer like I was promised. Quite honestly it wasn’t appealing enough for me to waste 10 dollars on. If it was 5, that would be a different story. I was interested in Castle Crashers, but when i saw the 15 dollar price point, I didn’t even bother to download the demo. Now we’ere hearing the game is riddled with bugs.

I’m not made of money, I have a very limited budget when it comes to games, and despite what Penny Arcade says to the contrary things like food and clothing come before that. And my wife. I recently purchased Bionic Commando ReArmed and Geometry Wars 2 on XBLA and the original Mega Man on the VC. I’m planning on purchasing Madden and Mega Man 9 in the near future and hopefully one other retail game or a few downloadable games. So I’m not about to throw away money just because “I should support a developer”. Don’t give that B.S. Offer your game at a reasonable price point and be something I want to play and I while. Otherwise you ain’t getting my money.

Part of me wonders if the guys at Penny Arcade made their statement because they know their own game is overpriced. There is no way in hell I’m paying 20 bucks for that game. I like Penny Arcade a lot despite my rant and wanted to play the game. But I hate turn-based RPGs and the game’s humor and style wasn’t enough for me to get past the RPGness and 20 dollar price point. At 10 dollars I would purchase it in a hot second. I would even consider it at 15. But 20, no way.

Microsoft seems to be trying to increase the regular price on the XBLA, which is pretty devious. They’re already getting more money from the game’s then they did before. 5-10 dollars is just a comparable price to what I’m used to on the VC. Trying to get me to pay 15-20 just isn’t going to work, I’m going to buy less games and only ones that are 10 or under. I have still refused to purchase any map packs for games, because they are eventually reduced or made free.

Penny Arcade and Microsoft seem to forget that we consumers have less disposable income right now than we have in times past. No is not the time to raise prices on things we never needed in the first place. I mean I can live with out a Penny Arcade game or Braid game. I can’t live without food, and it would make life much less comfortable to live without clothing. So, I guess i’m voting with my dollar and ignoring these games until they come down to a reasonable price.
