An improvement over last year’s Wii introduction in many ways. The Wii version now seems to be running on its own graphics engine; not an old GCN/Ps2 one anymore.The Wii motion controls were very immersive last year but were a shade too complex. This year they are more streamlined for ease of use.It is now possible to consistently kick the darn football. Playing locally there doesn’t seem to be any lag or motion misinterprets that were small problems last year.
In addition to the motion control improvements, this year’s Madden was one of the first Wii games to feature online play. There were however, some problems with it. You can read about those here. Some of the problems seem to have been mitigated though.
There are some small problems with the game, including some new ones, but all in all EA delivers the same solid Madden experience we’ve played the last few years.
For the next Madden to be on anyone’s list of best games of the year it needs to reboot a little. Next year I hope for improved online play, deeper strategy (the downfall of the Wii vs. other versions), Achievement like points or trophies to earn, and some fresh ideas in the franchise and superstar modes.
