This is yet another coming-of-age high school movie. However, it felt fresh. It may be lead character’s Hailee Steinfeld’s charisma, the fact that it was the story of a troubled teen girl instead of a boy, or the the fact that is prominently featured a mixed-race romance. Or it maybe it was all three,= and none of them seemed forced. Also, at film festival it’s nice see a movie that doesn’t take things too seriously and has a happy ending. It’s a nice change- of- pace.
