Best Pro Wrestling Matches of 2015: July and August

July

Lucha Underground: Lucha Underground Ultima Lucha Part 1 – Cage vs the Mack – Falls Count Anywhere Match

This was a Falls Count Anywhere match but there also did not appear to be any disqualifications as all sorts of foreign objects were used. You usually get maybe one or two “OMG” moment in a big event. There were multiple OMG moments in this match. And very rarely do you think “How did they fake that” when watching wrestling. But I thought that over and over while watching this.

Honorable Mention

WWE:  The Beast in the East – Finn Balor vs Kevin Owens – NXT Championship Match

A nice mixture of the American and Japanese wrestling styles. The personalities and signature moves of the WWE were shown, but there was also much more in-ring storytelling than in almost any other WWE match.

NJPW: Dominion 7.5 in Osako-jo Hall – Kazuchi Okada vs. A.J. Styles –  IWGP Heavyweight Championship Match

A. J. Styles and his fans always crow about he’s the “Best in the World” but he spends too much time in the ring preening for my liking. But in this match, he actually had to fight non-stop against an even better opponent in Okada. I’ve watched a lot wrestling this year, and things happened in this match that I’ve never seen before.

August

None.

Despite both WWE’s SummerSlam and NJPW’s G1 Climax being enjoyable no match from either event stood out. NXT Takeover:Brooklyn was a nice showcase for the NXT talent but both Bayley and Sasha Banks had better matches in 2015 and the Kevin Owens and Finn Balor contest came down to one memorable moment.
