Middleburg Film Festival – Day 3: Hitchcock/Truffaut

Full disclosure part 1 – I didn’t see any films on Day 3, so post the other half of my Day 2 viewing under Day 3. Technically the films were playing on both days.

Full disclosure part 2 – I dozed off a bit during this movie.

In the 60s New wave French director Francois Truffaut interviewed Alfred Hitchcock about each of his movies and published his interviews as a book Hitchcock/Truffaut. This documentary is about how those interviews came about. Sort of. It’s also about the relationship between Hitchcock and Truffaut. And it’s also about Hitchcock’s film style, themes, and genius.

If you liked the book, or are a Hitchcock fan you’ll probably enjoy the movie. But it didn’t really reveal anything that wasn’t already in the book. And as a documentary, it lacks focus.
